This is the story of a rather unfortunate race. Unfortunate in the case of weather mostly.
It was on the morning of Father's Day. I was expecting a hot summer run when I signed up and was actually kind of nervous to run a 5 mile race in the heat. It turned out be to about 60 degrees and POURING RAIN!
The real sad part is that I have ZERO pictures. Not-a-one. I didn't even run with my phone! I was nervous about it getting too wet and breaking, so I shockingly ran naked. I'm pretty sure that is the first time I ran without tracking it since I started running a year and a half ago. I know I was still being timed and knew my distance, but I really like looking at my splits! I ran this with my sister and I'm pretty sure our pace kept speeding up. But we will never know.
And there was a malfunction of some sort and the race photographers lost all their pictures, so there are no professional pictures either. Sad, sad day.
Ribfest 5 Miler
Anheuser-Busch Brewery, Merrimack NH
Distance: 5 Miles
Parking: Parking was off site. There were a few nearby businesses that opened their parking lots for race parking and they had shuttle buses to bring you to the start. I picked a random lot to put in my GPS and it ended up being 'Premium Parking' so I had to pay $10. Oh well. It was close and the $10 went to a charity. (Noted for future fundraising efforts - Open a parking lot for an event!)
Registration/Timing: There was no early bib pick up for this race. It would have been really nice if there was because the weather was so awful. Everyone had to wait in line in the pouring rain and the lines were LONG since no one could get their bib early! Mother nature...
Facilities: Didn't notice about bathrooms. I'm sure there were plenty since this was at Ribfest too :)
There was a bag check, which I have never used before. Thank god they had one because of the weather! They tied everyone's stuff up in plastic bags and that seemed to work really well.
Course: This course was a lollipop, as I like to call it. Out and back, but with a loop at the end. It wasn't too hilly at all. There were 2 water stops and plenty of rain to keep us cool and hydrated.
Added bonus - road kill mid-race. That was gross! LOL
Swag: I didn't know if I was getting anything at this race, but I got a t-shirt. It is a nice grey tech shirt.
Overall Review: The course wasn't anything that special, but it is part of the series and I'm sure it would have been really fun to go to RibFest after the race if it was nice out.
Will I Return? Maybe. I will have to see what my race schedule looks like next year :)
