This one was another local, small race. I ran this one with the whole family! My parents and husband alternated running & walking, while my sister and I ran the whole way. She has never run a 5K before and was very excited that she didn't walk at all. I was impressed :) I ran with her most of the way, but left her in the last mile to get to take it up a notch to the finish. And I PR'd! Woohoooo :-D
Mother's Day 5K Indulgence
Woodsom Farm, Amesbury MA
Entry Fee: Varied based on whether you wanted to receive more swag on race day (wine, chocolate and a necklace were available on top of a t-shirt) and if you registered as a pair or as an individual.
Parking: There was plenty of parking in the field right by the start of the race.
Registration/Timing: Bib pick up and day of registration were quick and painless. The race was pretty small and they had early bib pick up so there were no lines. For some reason my results were never emailed/texted to me or posted online. I guess my bib didn't work...SAD. I really wanted my official time because according to my phone app I PR'd.
They added my official time to the results site yesterday! 27:56 and apparently first in my age group?!
Facilities: There were a handful of Porta Potties on sight. I didn't use any, so no info there, but I think Porta Potties are all pretty much the same level of cleanliness/grossness.
Course: The course was a quick loop that was mostly flat. Thank goodness it was mostly flat because today was the hottest temp I have run a race in! It was exhausting! Also, it's kind of nice running a race where you know the streets; that has never happened to me before.
Post-Race: There was water, coconut water, yogurt and chips that I saw. We left really quickly for some reason so I didn't get to check out most of the post race food. They had an MC the whole time, which I definitely think boosts the mood. He was the same announcer as at the Tortoise and Hare race I ran in Salisbury and he is really funny to listen to.
Overall Review: I liked this race because of the nice swag (shirt, wine & chocolate!) and how close to home it was. But I am really bummed that my bib didn't work and I don't have official results. If I am still living in Newton next year I will probably be back just because it was so close to home.
My official time was added on Tuesday (3 days later, so not too bad)
Hi, I'm Jessie!
I live in NH with my husband and our pups. My favorite things are coaching Girls on the Run, eating good food that I didn't have to cook, helping other people work on their health, volunteering for and running races, watching tv, doing yoga, and spending too much time on social media. #Balance
