I don't know how but it's September and that means it's Reach the Beach month!
I really didn't train right at all for this so I am going to salvage the last little bit of time and get some focused training in. I am still going to do some Body Beast and a yoga pose-of-the-day challenge on Instagram on top of running (#BasicYogaMix with @Beachyogagirl and @Kinoyoga). Hopefully it's not too much. We shall see.
There are a few things I wanted to make sure I fit into the last couple of weeks before Reach the Beach. First thing I need to address is the fact that I am scared of running in the dark. No, I'm just scared of the dark. And animals that live in the woods.
I'm doing my first night run tonight to start practicing. When the sun is starting to go down I already am afraid of every noise I hear, so this should be interesting! I need to buy a bunch of lights, reflectors, bells and pepper spray before I run! Around home I am mostly afraid of wildlife, which will be my same fear during RTB. There have been plenty of bear sightings by my house and I can imagine the same is true throughout the state... No thank you, bears!
The second thing I wanted to make sure I do is increase the my distance and do some long runs. My longest leg of RTB is almost 9 miles so I need to do a few long runs before that (because that long leg is in the dark, so it should be extra special).
The last thing I wanted to incorporate is double run days. I haven't done this before and I feel like I really need to simulate what running 3 legs of a relay will be like. Hopefully I will be a little used to running on tired legs. I'm not sure how I'll do with the no sleep aspect, but I can't wait to find out!
I created this mash-up training schedule to follow. It includes running, my IG yoga challenge, Body Beast, a little bit of PiYo and one live SUP Yoga class -- because that sounds friggin' fun! It's kind of a cluster, but I think it'll work!
I haven't even added up the miles I wrote down here. Let's do that now....
Training days - 48.5ish miles
RTB legs - 17 miles
Total = 65.5ish miles
That will by my highest mileage in ages! I have really been slacking on the running front lately so this will be a good month to jump back into it and maybe put me on the path for my next half???
Here's my weirdo training calendar for September:
What does your September look like? Any big goals or races? Will I bump into you at Reach the Beach?
Hi, I'm Jessie!
I live in NH with my husband and our pups. My favorite things are coaching Girls on the Run, eating good food that I didn't have to cook, helping other people work on their health, volunteering for and running races, watching tv, doing yoga, and spending too much time on social media. #Balance
