People have been asking me why I started running. Here is my answer.
I wanted to start running 5Ks about 3 years ago, but I didn’t want it enough to start training. Last spring I finally started by doing the Couch to 5K program and ran one race, but then stopped running once summer rolled around. I completely started from scratch in November 2013 running only half a mile at a time. I ran two 1 mile races in December and January and slowly built myself back up to 3 miles so I could run a couple of 5Ks in February and March.
Last year, when I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, I was doing a lot of reading and research about Crohn’s and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in general. That is when I came across Team Challenge, the running and fundraising group for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). I thought about joining then, but was too nervous and didn’t think I would be able to run 13.1 miles. So I didn’t sign up.
This spring I came across the program again online and signed up before I could convince myself out of it. I have been training with this group for about 4 weeks now and they have helped me double my mileage already. It is awesome to have such a supportive training group. Going on long runs with them is so fun because each week I get to meet more people and talk to them as we run, which makes the miles fly by.
I am excited to keep improving as I run more and more and eventually run my first half marathon at the Jamestown Half Marathon in July.

Hi, I'm Jessie!
I live in NH with my husband and our pups. My favorite things are coaching Girls on the Run, eating good food that I didn't have to cook, helping other people work on their health, volunteering for and running races, watching tv, doing yoga, and spending too much time on social media. #Balance
